Translations for the cosmetics industry: that extra touch
Evocative translations for the cosmetics industry
SMG Cosmetics is our dedicated line of translation and interpretation services focussed on hair care, make-up and bath products—designed exclusively for the linguistic internationalisation of the cosmetics sector.
We translate and enhance a wide range of texts including brochures, labels, catalogues, flyers and PowerPoint presentations into English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Russian, Chinese and many other languages within the global cosmetics market.
Thanks to our native-speaking translators and cosmetics experts at our offices around the world, we ensure translations that adhere to the client’s technical terminology while also fully capturing the essence of the advertising message, going well beyond a mere literal translation.
Our interpreters also provide valuable linguistic support at international events like CosmoProf. We also offer interpreting services for corporate conventions, internal training sessions and business negotiations.

Our new glossary of hair-care terms
Our translators can now benefit from a comprehensive, newly developed glossary of technical and scientific terms, the result of research conducted by our team and officially presented at our translation studies seminar in Exeter, UK.
To ensure accurate translation services for the cosmetics sector, we continually update our glossary by adding key terms in chemistry and physiology, as well as names of beauty products, personal hygiene items, natural hair care and personal care products.

The story of our first translation services for the cosmetics industry
Our journey into the cosmetics industry began one morning in 2008 when we were approached by a rapidly growing company, Alfaparf. At the time, we were still a local translation studio, but our drive and solid technical expertise enabled us to pass their rigorous entrance test, which included an interpretation simulation and technical translation assessments. Alfaparf was seeking a translation agency that could deliver high terminological accuracy in the cosmetics sector while also crafting fluid, highly emotional expressions.
This marked the beginning of our partnership with Alfaparf, supporting them through various stages of their internationalisation journey. Together, we navigated the usual challenges of translating for a multinational cosmetic company, such as creating multilingual content and materials for international consumers, the sales team and an increasingly global workforce. For example, we tackled interesting cases of standardising terminology, looking to combine American terminology with Australian and British English.
This initial experience equipped us with the technical expertise to tackle challenges from other companies in the cosmetics industry, sharpening our focus on language localisation and fuelling our determination to make a meaningful impact!
