Computational linguistics: the new horizon for terminological analysis

We have developed systems to analyse large volumes of data, such as extensive collections of texts (corpora) or the web itself. These systems enable us to identify terms and concepts that are of interest to you.

We can pinpoint recurring terminology, such as the most frequently used word to express a concept, as well as hidden and unusual terms, like slang expressions or coded language (this analysis is particularly useful in linguistic interpretation of interceptions).

Our method

Researching recurring terms

Our data analysis can be conducted at multiple levels:

  • We can identity the most commonly used term by a specific category of people to express a concept, which term has been predominantly used in the last 6 months by Californian residents in their thirties to refer to “sport shoes” in English (sneakers).
  • We check that the terminology complies with technical and legal standards, and is consistent with the client’s communication policy.
  • In many cases, we are able to check the average emotional perception of the audience towards a particular term.

The objective statistical results provided by our analysis ensure accurate and targeted translations, greatly enhancing the effectiveness of our client’s marketing efforts and technical terminology in general.

Search for hidden or unusual terms

Imagine having to decipher slang or coded expressions used specifically to express or conceal other meanings, for instance expressions used by teenagers speaking in slang or by criminals avoiding detection.

If you need to search for specific terms or information expressed in words that are unusual or difficult to decipher, our multilingual analysts identify the relevant pieces of information from extensive datasets or specific social, cultural and geographic contexts Keyword analysis, relevant expressions, and semantic contexts, including rare languages and dialects, allow us to identify terms and information expressed in both conventional and unconventional ways. This research system is particularly valuable, for example, in client marketing analysis, in law enforcement interception and intelligence systems.
