Last week Director-General of SMG Languages Luca Moretto and Junior Translator Grace Ford visited the University of Exeter to hold a seminar on translation.
The university is currently working alongside SMG to provide budding translators with first-hand experience of the translation industry. Over the last ten years, SMG has collaborated with universities all over the world such as the Universidad Católica Sedes Sapientiae of Lima, the Università Cattolica of Brescia, the French institute ESTRI (École Supérieure de Traduction et Relations Internationales) and the Jagellonica University in Cracow, and is proud to add the University of Exeter to this list.
The University of Exeter is the Sunday Times University of the Year 2012-2013. It was ranked 8th in the Times Good University Guide and is one of the top universities for student satisfaction. The Modern Languages department offers undergraduate courses in French, Italian, Spanish, German and Russian as well as an MA Translation course.
The seminar was split into two separate presentations. The first outlined the structure of SMG and the second focussed on translation studies and included a short interactive session for the students. This was followed by a question and answer session.
SMG UK received positive feedback from the staff and students of the University. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and visiting the University of Exeter again in the future.
