Building on our decades-long experience in translating technical documentation for portable firearms such as pistols, assault rifles, grenade launchers, sporting rifles, optics and targeting systems, we have compiled an internal multilingual glossary containing over 4,000 verified technical terms in Italian, English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Turkish, Arabic, Chinese and Thai.

Translation and verification

We verify our translations using quality checks compliant with UNI EN 10574, UNI EN 15038 (Proofreading) and ISO 17100. Classified information is handled in accordance with procedures for managing confidential, highly confidential, secret and top secret data, guaranteed by the prestigious ISO 27001 certification.

A journey back in time: the history of our passion for firearms

SMG Languages, a translation agency, has a special connection to the world of firearms: its founder, Luca Moretto, has a passion for antique arms. As a lifelong lover of history, Luca was fortunate to be the nephew of antique arms collector Walter Tonolini, who introduced him to the study of antique arms and sparked his imagination by giving him some “old irons” to clean and fantasise about. Imagine a child’s joy receiving a crate filled with ancient gun barrels from his uncle, gunlocks and pieces of armour… it’s a dream come true! At the age of 12, Luca was given a  golden opportunity: he became the apprentice of Enrico Bertasi, the restorer at the Luigi Marzoli Museum of Antique Weapons in Brescia and the Beretta Museum in Gardone V.T. This experience only intensified his passion, which remained unwavering from that moment on.

Luca Moretto’s respect for firearms and his unwavering desire to provide translation services to the major firearms manufacturers in his local area of Brescia have driven SMG Languages’ involvement in the arms and defence sector, to the extent that some of the leading international industrial players and numerous defence forces are now among our clients.

This journey began with remnants of a large collection of firearms and continues today with pride in translating for a sector rich in history, culture and passion.
