Transcription of text from audio/video recordings

The transcription service offered by SMG UK Translations consists in providing clients with a written transcription of dialogue and conversations previously recorded on audio/video storage devices. This service allows clients to receive transcriptions of entire recordings of meetings or conventions in the form of a digital file or hard copy.

SMG transcribes files provided by the client in French, Spanish, German or in any other foreign language, delivering the contents in the format requested.

Remember: “transcription” means simply transposing in writing what is heard in a sound recording. So, if you order a transcription of a company meeting that was held in French, you will receive text containing the discussions in French. To request a version of the transcribed texts in a language different to the one of the audio recording, you can order the comprehensive transcription + text translation service (see paragraph below for more information).

An accurate transcription faithfully reproduces all of the pauses and words of the speaker; however, if required, we can arrange for the correction of the transcript’s syntax and grammar in such a way as to make dialogues more suitable for reading: generally speaking, an accurate transcription is one which records any grammatical errors, pauses, hestiations, etc. heard during the playback. However, if requested, our staff can also rework the transcription to make the style of the dialogue more suitable for written text and to correct any grammatical inaccuracies which may have occurred in speech during recording.

And for more discerning clients, we can perform real-time transcriptions of meetings, conventions or other types of events, using transcribers who work directly during your event, thus shortening production times. We use shorthand techniques and ALT (Automatic Language Treatment) systems, which enable us to transcribe or summarise conventions, meetings and judicial proceedings in a quick, efficient and professional manner.

The customer can request the transcription service using the form on this page or by contacting one of our offices.

SMG receives the requests and, after the customer confirms our offer, we manage the execution of the service by coordinating the linguistic staff and required technology.

Our company has carefully selected the most competent professional transcribers, guaranteeing high quality services. At SMG, we check the quality of our transcription service during its execution. We also review transcripts before delivery to the client.

To improve the clarity of the transcribed content, we remind the customer to agree on some important technical details before ordering: for example:

the name of the speaker can be indicated just before their speech;
the minutes count of the recording can be written before the beginning of each spoken part or at regular time intervals (every 5 minutes is advised);
inaudible speech can be indicated with the marking: (inaudible speech );
loud background noise can be noted in brackets.
